I’m picking up a home generator to use for those times that the power goes out and we need to have a backup power source, but I’m wondering if I can also use it in my RV when traveling? I’m thinking of picking up a propane powered unit, because we have a propane tank on our property already, so will they hook up to a portable propane tank as well? We’ve got power in the RV already, but it would be nice to have something that can be taken out and used in a campsite or someplace else that we need power away from the RV itself.

Sure, no reason it wouldn’t work in the RV as well as at home. Propane is probably your best option if you’ve already got it on the RV anyway. Just make sure that your tank is big enough to handle everything you’re running from it.
Absolutely. I move my propane powered generator back and forth to our camper and home all summer long. It works great when we’re out in the sticks and want to plug in the laptop or cell phone to get it charged back up.
